I recently bought a home stereo consisting of a JVC Receiver, 5 disc cd player, tuner, and two floor speakers. I took my RCA y adapter and hooked my ipod up to the stereo but can only get one speaker to play. When I switch the white RCA to the left I get the left speaker and when I plug it in the right I get the right speaker. The speakers work great when I use the cd player. I checked the balance on the actual receiver to make sure both speakers are getting the same input as well. The other speaker is playing but very low. I even tried putting them into the cd input of the receiver since that seemed to work already. I still got the same results. Any ideas?

My brother just figured it out. I was using an RCA with red, yellow, and white. I was only trying the red and white connectors. He plugged the yellow in and got the other speaker working. For some reason its running the video connection.

Well then one of the three cables was indeed bad.

Just go by a nice shielded cable for your ipod

Nah it isn't bad.. Yellow is typically video while red and white are left and right channels of audio. If your plug had all three it means its for a plug that has all 3. Some laptops are equipped with it.. the plug is just built different then the regular plug the ipod was expecting.

THe reason why I said to double check is because your cable is only 3 wires and the J2 is 4 and the pinout for the J2 harness according to the adapter would be different from your cable. It sounds like their J2 connects to the 4 pin header on the adapter and converts to the 3 pin stereo cable for plug and play.

It's a good thing you clarified that almost a year later.
